It also serves as an important representative species for research on the Compositae, one of the most diverse and successful families of Angiosperm plants. The Lettuce Genome Sequencing Project has been a collaboration between the Michelmore lab at UC Davis and the BGI, Shenzen. It was supported by the Lettuce Genome Sequencing Consortium. The data have been generated as a result of the Compositae Genome Project.
